Over the course of the past decade, after having recognized that lead can be extremely toxic, the federal government has strengthened its regulation of lead products. The presence of old lead-based paint in housing represents the most significant hazard remaining for lead poisoning, particularly for young children. It is documented that the ingestion of lead has impaired physical and mental development in young children.
Lead-Based Paint Surveys are conducted to assess the presence of potential lead-based paint within buildings. The surveys are conducted either by one of two ways: physical collection of paint chip samples for laboratory analysis, or by using a portable x-ray fluorescence analyzer.
